Meet Tamara

Tamara James was born June 13, 1984 and is a retired WNBA player for the Washington Mystics. She is an alumna of the University of Miami, where she majored in liberal arts with a concentration in theater studies. James was selected by the Mystics in the first round, eighth overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft.  James spent 9 years as a professional basketball player, mostly overseas in Israel. In Israel, James won 2 Cup Championships and 1 League Championship and blessed with the opportunities of expanding her career across several countries including Spain, Turkey and Israel. Before her professional basketball career, she excelled in basketball at the University of Miami, becoming the all-time leading scorer for men and women at 2,406 points.

In 2011, James was blessed with a healthy baby boy. Her basketball accolades continued in 2015 as she was inducted into the University of Miami Hall of Fame.  Tamara James has been a leader and giving back to her community since she was a teenager so it is only fitting that she decided to file to run for City Commission in her hometown, Dania Beach, FL.

“I have been truly blessed to have had all the opportunities and accomplishments with basketball, but what means most to me is using all that I have gained to give back so that our future generations can achieve more.” ~Tamara James

Priorities for Dania Beach

As a life-long resident, I not only want to maintain the quality of life we enjoy, but also to provide vision for the future to protect the City that I know and love — Dania Beach. I believe I can be fair and equitable during the decision making process for the City of Dania Beach. With an honest and straightforward approach, I want to help make this the best place to live. For that reason, I am passionate about the following issues in Dania Beach.

Help keep our youth in the City and out of trouble.

The more positive programs we have for our youth, the more we keep them out of trouble and build responsible, proactive youth.

Create a youth advisory council. The Youth Advisory Council is a team of servant-leaders recognized for their dedication to youth leadership, service-learning, diversity, and educational achievement for all.

Our seniors are life-long residents and should be cared for in the best way.

Quality of life for our seniors should be one of our priorities. By having an activity center or adult daycare, it gives our seniors something to look forward to, and an interactive social life.

Give our residents meaningful, healthy, usage of our parks.

Indoor gymnasiums, water play, exercise stations are important to keep our residents healthy and active.

Parks provide intrinsic environmental, aesthetic, and recreation benefits to our cities. They are also a source of positive economic benefits. They enhance property values, increase municipal revenue, bring in homebuyers and workers, and attract retirees.

While developing the city and continuing to bring projects to beautify our city, we must make sure all of our city is up to the standards we want our residents and tourists to be able to enjoy and feel safe.

Keeping our City safe and constantly evolving to keep up with the development of other cities.

Safety should be our #1 concern. Solar lights (since we are a location for storms and hurricanes), sidewalks, and our storm drainage system needs to be better. With the Dania Pointe coming fast, we need to continue with the beautification of our City to attract more business, which turns into more money the city gets from their business.
